Port Carling Ontario is one of my #1 stops on my annual Muskoka towns tour in the summer. I never consider the summer season complete, without a few visits to this awesome little water-front town.
Port Carling has the small Muskoka town personality
…… beautiful waterfront, restaurants sprinkled here and there, eclectic little shops and boutiques and that easy, slow pace that city dwellers who flock to cottage country, long for!
Situated on Highway 118, on the Indian River, Port Carling is home to the locks between Lake Rosseau and Lake Muskoka….about 2.5 hr from Toronto Ontario and just a stone’s throw from Parry Sound.
Port Carling comes alive in the spring, when area cottagers pour into the area. Most stores and shops are closed down in the quiet months of the winter…. businesses wind down in the early fall months.
It’s a great little hot spot, for singles, couples or families…. great for a day trip from the Toronto area and a perfect destination town in Ontario for a lazy summer day!
What to Do in Port Carling Ontario
My favorite thing to do in Port Carling? A leisurely stroll along the streets and the docks area, …. checking out the cool and unique shops which feature seasonal clothing, arts and craft, sculptures, paintings, house wares, cottage decor, food items and much more. There’s several places to grab a cold drink while enjoying the shopping tour.
It’s all about the ‘vibe’ in Port Carling in the summer months….soak up the sun, check out the shops, enjoy a cold beer at a patio bar and experience what we call ‘just another awesome day in Muskoka!’
- Be sure to check out the locks by the bridge and spend some time watching the boats pass through the lock system.
- Muskoka Lakes Museum – An inexpensive fun activity. Discover the town’s history
- The Muskoka Lakes Antique Boat Show – Next show August, 2015.
- Spa Rosseau at nearby JW Marriott.
- Winter: it’s a snowmobilers paradise.
